The Presidents Letter

19 Nov 2018 • Family news

Dear friends and fellow members of Mothers’ Union,

As usual life has been very busy since I wrote my last letter. We had a very rewarding AFIA day at Lee-on-the-Solent with the families from the Refuges in Portsmouth, Havant and Fareham and Gosport. There is an article in this Contact about the day and some lovely comments from Mums and Children who enjoyed the day.

Anne Bebbington, Valerie Griffiths and I have been to several branches to share MULOA and we hope that the members have enjoyed the experience as much as we have enjoyed being with them. If you haven’t experienced MULOA yet please ask me for next year.

September came and so did the General Meeting, held this year in Swansea. My husband and I decided that we would have a short holiday around 17th and 18th September the dates of the Meeting. Of course, this was the week when the weather broke, all that gorgeous sun that we had all over the summer left us. We had a small cottage that was well appointed, however when we arrived there was an engineer just leaving. We had no heating or hot water for four days. There was much boiling of kettles. It didn’t put a damper on the service that was held in the Collegiate and parish church of St Mary, Swansea. There was lovely music and an anthem sung be the choir and a most excellent sermon by the Bishop of St David’s, the Rt Rev’d Joanna Penberthy.

The next day, Mothers’ Union General Meeting was held in the Brangwyn Hall. As this was the end of a triennium we had to say goodbyes, firstly to Central Chaplain, Rt. Revd Andrew Proud and secondly to our Worldwide President, Lynne Tembey who has completed six years as President and if you remember visited us in 2015. At the end of the meeting there was an announcement that brought forth gasps of surprise from the Portsmouth members present, which was that the General Meeting in 2019 will be held on 17th and 18th September in PORTSMOUTH. Your trustees will be asking for your help in this task, as stewards, guides and friendly faces.

May God bless you all. With love and asking for your prayers,

Elizabeth
